Editorial policy
Mission
We publish useful, accurate local news for residents of Toronto, York Region and the GTA, written in plain language and linked to its sources.
Sourcing
- Every article cites at least one primary source (for example a council agenda, an official notice, a police media release or public data) and links it in the Sources box.
- We report facts in our own words. Quotations are short, attributed and used only when the exact wording matters.
- We do not copy or lightly rewrite other outlets' stories. When another outlet broke a story, we credit and link it.
- Each article includes an original "What it means for residents" section.
- Numbers are dated and linked to the source. We do not reuse proprietary market data without permission.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to help collect public documents, extract facts and prepare first drafts. No article is published without review and approval by a human editor, who checks every fact against the linked source, rewrites as needed and is accountable for the result. Articles prepared with AI assistance carry a note saying so. We do not use AI to invent quotes, people, images of real events or data, and we do not mass-produce articles.
Fact-checking and review
An editor checks names, numbers, dates and quotes against the primary source before publication. Sensitive items (police, courts, health, housing claims) always receive human review.
Public safety and police coverage
We name no private individuals in police items, even when police do, and publish no mugshots. We follow the Youth Criminal Justice Act and court publication bans. We use "charged" and "alleged" until a court decides.
Ethics and independence
- Advertisers and sponsors have no say over news coverage.
- Sponsored or paid content, if accepted, is clearly labelled and never presented as news.
- Staff disclose conflicts of interest to the editor and do not cover matters in which they have a personal or financial interest.
- See Ownership and funding for who owns and funds this site.
Updates and corrections
Updated articles keep their address and show an "Updated" date. Errors are corrected promptly under our corrections policy.
