YRT Fall Service Changes Reshape School Specials Across York Region
York Region Transit fall changes adjusted express routes, on-request service and a long list of school specials for the new school year.

This report by Editorial team is based on information published by York Region.
According to York Region, York Region Transit service changes took effect on Sunday, September 6, 2026, ahead of the back-to-school season. The Region says schedules and routes were adjusted to better match demand and run the network more efficiently across York Region municipalities.
Among the regular services, schedules for Route 320 Jane Express and Route 360 Vaughan Mills and Wonderland were aligned with the hours of Vaughan Mills and Canada's Wonderland. On-Request Kleinburg-Nashville gained weekday midday service and now operates Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., giving riders in that area a wider booking window than a peak-only service.
School specials are the biggest list
School special routes returned on Tuesday, September 8 for the 2026 and 2027 school year, with changes that families should check route by route. Route 404 for Markville begins from a new stop at Greenwater Gate and Lane 8 because of redevelopment on Helen Avenue. Route 414 gained an extension south of Hoover Park Drive and an added morning trip. The Pierre Elliott Trudeau services were split into Route 418 via 16th Avenue and Route 419 via Major Mackenzie Drive.
Aurora riders saw Route 426 adjusted along St. John's Sideroad, while Routes 432 and 437 were modified along Mavrinac Boulevard and St. John's Sideroad. A new Route 438 serves the Orchard Heights area for St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School. Route 445 added an afternoon trip to address crowding, and Routes 464 and 465 were revised around Peter Rupert Avenue and Sweetriver Boulevard, with Route 465 renamed for that routing.
Not every change is an addition. York Region says Route 468, the Emily Carr School Special via Kleinburg, was discontinued because of low ridership. Route 471 was renamed and revised to operate along Ravineview Drive, Kirby Road and Dufferin Street. Families who moved over the summer, or whose child changed schools, should confirm the current route number before the next school morning rather than relying on last year's stop.
Fares and trip planning
The Region points riders to its service changes page for the authoritative list and to its trip planner for specific trips. York Region also notes fare help programs, including transit assistance, One Fare connections to GO Transit, and fare capping, plus discounted travel for youth, adults and seniors using PRESTO products. Every YRT bus carries two bicycle racks, and the Region says a bicycle rides free when the rider pays a regular fare.
Because school special times can change with enrolment and road work, the safest routine is to check the York Region service changes page linked below the evening before a new term, exam week or a route detour. This summary names only changes stated by York Region and does not replace the timetable for any individual stop.
What it means for residents
For York Region families in Markham, Vaughan, Aurora and Richmond Hill, the local value is a route-by-route warning that school specials, stop locations and one Kleinburg on-request service changed this fall, so last year's routine may no longer work. This local angle is based only on the official source named in this article, and readers should confirm final details on that source page before acting.
