York Region Transit (YRT/Viva) has issued an advisory regarding service adjustments for its Route 10 (Woodbridge) and Route 26 (Maple) buses. These detours are necessitated by construction activities taking place on Portage Parkway, specifically impacting the westbound lane between Applewood Crescent and Buttermill Avenue, as well as a section of Edgeley Boulevard north of Portage Parkway.

The construction is scheduled to occur from Monday, October 26 to Thursday, October 29, 2026, and will resume on Monday, November 2, 2026, continuing until further notice. Passengers using these routes are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and anticipate potential delays.

For Route 10 (Woodbridge) westbound buses, the detour will involve a series of turns. Buses will turn right onto southbound Millway Avenue, then right onto westbound Apple Mill Road, followed by another right onto northbound Applewood Crescent, and finally a left onto westbound Portage Parkway to rejoin their regular routing. During this detour, stops 3791 and 7164 will be missed. Eastbound Route 10 buses will not be affected by this detour and will maintain their regular service.

Alternative stops have been designated for Route 10 westbound passengers. These include a temporary stop on Apple Mill Road, located west of Edgeley Boulevard, and another temporary stop on Portage Parkway, situated west of Applewood Crescent.

Route 26 (Maple) will also experience detours in both southbound and northbound directions. Southbound buses will turn left onto eastbound Pennsylvania Avenue, then right onto southbound Millway Avenue, before returning to their regular routing. Stops 7161 and 7162 will be missed for southbound passengers. For northbound Route 26 buses, the detour will follow the reverse of the southbound routing. Northbound passengers will miss stops 3773, 3805, and 3806.

Temporary stops for Route 26 southbound passengers include a stop on Pennsylvania Avenue, east of Edgeley Boulevard, and another on Millway Avenue, north of Portage Parkway. Northbound passengers on Route 26 can utilize temporary stops on Millway Avenue, north of Portage Parkway, and on Pennsylvania Avenue, east of Edgeley Boulevard. YRT/Viva encourages passengers to allow extra travel time during this period. For assistance with trip planning, customers can contact YRT/Viva at 1-866-668-3978.

What it means for residents

GTA residents, particularly those in Woodbridge and Maple, should be aware of significant transit disruptions impacting York Region Transit's Route 10 and 26. The construction on Portage Parkway will affect daily commutes for those traveling westbound on Route 10 or using Route 26 in either direction. Commuters should factor in additional travel time, especially during peak hours, as buses will be rerouted through several local streets. Familiarizing yourself with the temporary stop locations on Apple Mill Road, Portage Parkway, Pennsylvania Avenue, and Millway Avenue will be crucial for a smoother journey. This ongoing work, starting in late October and early November 2026, could impact access to key areas, so planning ahead using YRT's contact number for trip planning assistance is highly recommended to minimize inconvenience.
